if you are truly wanting to visiting, be sure to learn russian. english is nonexistant in abkhazia. dress modestly, don't say anything pro-georgian or anti-russia.
enter through the georgian side if you dont want to have drama with georgia in the future. they count entering through russia as an illegal entry.

I'm going to be honest most of the fearmongering is bullshit. Hiking, the resorts, swimming. There's not really a club scene. Prostitution is high, but to any those who are sexpats, HIV is without a surprise high. You won't find a good nightlife.
Gagra is very beautiful. If you also like visiting ghost cities, I recommend it. I don't recommend it for beginners and/or if someone doesn't speak Russian.
