get out of the city. Go to harpers ferry. Go see Great Falls. Downtown Annapolis, Shenandoah National Park, Old Town Alexandria. Go to a National's game, or a Commanders game. The Ocean City Maryland boardwalk is fun for a day or two.

Traffic in the afternoon is only bad from 3-7 pm. Plan accordingly.

Rent a scooter and drive it through Georgetown and Embassy row all the way up to the Maryland border. It's really cozy and a great way to see embassy row which is hard to really take in on foot because it's pretty spread out.
Do a tour of the monuments, I suggest at night. Visit the major museums, they're all free. Head over to Arlington Cemetery and see the changing of the guard. Head over to Georgetown to get a beer, some lunch, tour the campus, check out some embassies, and take your picture on the Exorcist stairs. Check out the zoo if you can stand the heat.

one time in 2008 I was at the zoo and it closed while we were still in it, and we had to climb over and under the gates to get out. it’s a horrible city, just awful
