>Iowa apparently has 23 casinos.
Go to one and you'll see why people don't come from outside areas to visit them. They're not like Las Vegas resorts. Casinos also in neighboring states
The casinos in Council Bluffs are alright, they're not the scale of Vegas strip resorts.. but they are on par with the older established local and downtown joints.
The Field of Dreams
Crash Site of Buddy Holly/Ritchie Valens/The Big Bopper
Effigy Mounds National Monument
Iowa Capitol Building/Historical Museum
Papa John Sculpture Park
El Bait Shop (300+ beers on tap)
Valisca Axe Murder House
I used to work in that second tallest building, The Ruan Center. They wanted it to look like the world trade center. One of the most backwards companies I've ever worked for was Ruan Transport. But I did get to travel to different terminals throughout the country which was cool.
There is literally nothing to do in Iowa, ever. People aren't even that friendly, just a fake friendly which gets annoying.
Zombie Burger is the biggest redditmeme restaurant that exists there. Just thinking about it makes me laugh.
Not a whole lot to see. The biggest city Des Moines has all the amenities that the average city for its size would have; though probably less "diverse" than the coastal cities for whatever that's worth. Des Moines and Omaha are two of the best kept secrets in the country for low COL and high QOL.
This.
I lived there 20 years ago and it was rather comfy, but from what I understand its become alot browner since then. Still decent if you want a quiet life.
Not a lot to do in Iowa. Go do Dunnings Springs and the Ice Cave, or maybe Effigy Mounds National Park.
You'd be better off driving up Lake Michigan and seeing Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay and Minneapolis and then cutting back down to Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Iowa has some of the best whitetail deer hunting in the country from what I hear. Other than that, it's pretty flat and boring. Drove though a few years ago and didn't see anything that made me want to stop
I enjoy going to Clear Lake, Iowa. I just love the hustle and bustle of that small town. Just look at this bar in my photo. It screams fun and excitement.
1/300? No, don't count the fatties. It's more like 1/1000. No one stays in Iowa if they can help it.
>Ruan center
666 Grand Ave
indeed that is their address. The Ruan dude was probably a freemason too.
The tech department thought they had a great idea of moving their entire data center to a bunker would improve performance. They never considered the cloud. Absolute morons were/are in charge.

Most of all... explore. Explore the country roads and small towns. Go t the plains and watch a storm roll in. Watch the clouds form and the lightening miles away like a private light show. There is no storm like a plains storm and no country roads like a plains country road.
Holy shit a thread about where I'm from >attractions
nada, but the eastern part of the state has some comfy scenery and also the state has some of the friendliest goddamn people on the planet
I'm thinking about moving to Cedar Rapids. Wife is a nurse practitioner and I'm a Project Manager that can work remotely. Any insight would be much appreciated. Looks comfy to start a family. We intend to pay off a mortgage in 1-2 years.
Comfy place to start a family is in Marion, Mt Vernon or Robins. Mt Vernon likely having the best school district of the three.
Steer clear of any southern district of Cedar Rapids. SE and SW sides are bad news as well as portions of the NE/Hiawatha.
Also fair warning... this metro area gets some shady weather. See 2008 Flood, 2020 Derecho and multiple hail storms. You will hear the sirens multiple times a year (and at 845am every first Wednesday of the month).
I will say I was raised here and am currently raising a family here and the opportunities when compared with the cost of living is proper. There are also many family activities to do with the kids.
All the White people are leaving. Not very many Hispanic either. I would put this down on the "avoid" list. Property values are most certainly on their way to Detroit levels.
I just drove through Iowa and Nebraska and everyone was fat.
Everywhere outside the red areas is fat, hope his helps
Worlds largest truck stop which serves as a major human trafficking hub
Do elaborate. I've always wanted to see what Iowa 80 is like. I've ordered things from their parts store.
Iowa apparently has 23 casinos. This is news to me because I guess that's not enough to attract people to Iowa.

Its borders on your way out.
Nothing
My inlaws live in West Des Moine. It's boring and sterile suburbia. Probably and alright place to raise a family though.
Every time i visit i just drink and sports bet.
Nothing at all? I'm trying to do something every state.
They got some corn over there I hear but I've never been idk

The Amana colonies
Pella is kinda cool if you want to see a little Dutch town in the middle of the US
I can never remember the names of that entire row of middle states except for lousiana.

Cedar Rapids is ok. Have you been there before? Pretty sure you shouldn't live near the cereal plant. It smells terrible.

IC is better
yeah if youre a communist or troony
True. I grew up there, and worked there until 8 years ago. It was awesome place to grow up, in the 50's and 60's. Now it sucks.
All the White people are leaving. Not very many Hispanic either. I would put this down on the "avoid" list. Property values are most certainly on their way to Detroit levels.
Just drove through, the only things I stopped at were Caseys country store and Hessen Haus in Des moines
Ehh, decorah is pretty.
Is it fun to go there on election years to see all the candidates simping or does that get old quickly?
>Is it fun to go there on election years to see all the candidates simping or does that get old quickly?
I have lived here most of my life and the only time I have ever gone to see anyone was Dan Quayle when I was a toddler.
I am sick of the television ads though.. its so brutal leading up to the caucus.
They don’t really do that anymore because all of the campaigning happens online.
