It's Mini-Russia with a more liberal visa policy, i.e. nearly nobody needs a visa if they fly in and leave the country via Minsk airport.
Now that the Ukraine is off-limits for regular tourism, Belarus is an easy entry into Russian-language post-Soviet states and the Eurasian Customs Union.
Belarus is Russia's Canada. It has a soft border with Russia. The women are hot. The food in grocery stores is the best I've ever had. Minsk is newly constructed and nice for eastern Europe. Soviet architecture, monuments, apartment blocks. Flat, lots of trees. Birch trees. A few castles & Brest Fortress. One of the best WWII museums in the world. As cheap as Georgia, before February.
