I'm a pretty reckless person and I always buy an insurance before traveling abroad. But for some reason, I never had any injury. Not even a cut nor a bruise.

      Collapsed lung.
Somehow we managed to convince the insurance company to cover the expenses. Even though it was just a tourist insurance lmao.

You can bet on the fact the one time you don't buy it something's gonna happen.

How the hell did that happen? Some kind of chest injury in a car crash?

          Late reply, sorry.
Nothing of that sort thankfully. It was one of those that just happened. No excessive physical strain or anything. I didn't even know what it was before I got admitted. I was experiencing some chest pain so I went to a general clinic. I thought the doc would prescribe me a bunch of pills and I'd be on my way, but they right to the hospital and I was on the table before noon. Dubai medical care is primo.

I ate unwashed salad in Spain which had gravel in it, bit down on a grain of gravel without realising and split my tooth in half (I was quite young and not all my teeth had been replaced yet)
had to go to a doctor and have it pulled out with local anaesthetic, thankfully the adult tooth came in in a few weeks
it was mostly free thanks to EHIC cards, as the UK was in the EU at the time

one time when I was on a scouts camp in France, most of our troop got food poisoning from eating dodgy tagine, but I didn't eat it and got off fine

For real injuries, I had a moderately unpleasant motorcycle accident while living in Thailand. I didn't break any bones or require any surgery, but I had lots of bruises and scrapes and needed a few stitches in a split eyebrow. I got off pretty lucky, all things considered--I was not a competent driver of the motorbike. And I was the only one hurt, although I think my bike might have scraped or dented someone's car. The woman who hit me was pretty pissed because the accident was undeniably my fault--I basically pulled out in front of her. But the cops never came for me, and she never tried to find me to look for reparations (she might have been afraid she'd find out she killed me, I don't know).

Much more seriously, I also had a ruptured appendix in Thailand that ended up leading to sepsis and an intestinal infection beyond what remained of the bit that exploded. I needed quite extensive surgery and ten days on IV antibiotics in the hospital. Hurt like hell and almost killed me. But it makes for some interesting stories and a conversation-starter of a scar.

got the tip of my toe cut off while helping hotel staff set up a tent in Luang Prabang, Laos. drunk scottish guy fricked up causing a large pole with a sharp clasp on the end to fall directly on it.

all things considered it wasn't the worst, they took me to the hospital and i got it stitched up pretty quick. if the metal pole thing had hit me toe an inch further up, or my foot or leg it would have been really shitty.

i ended up hooking up with a beautiful girl from it indirectly, and getting my week's stay at the hostel + beer comped, so alls well that ends well i guess

i guess this counts because i was living abroad but not traveling per se.
head-on motorbike accident with a drunk driver taking his buddy's new racing motorbike out for a spin, we both went over our handlebars and my teeth went through his skull into his forehead. i had a near-death experience where i met my guardian angel and he gave me the choice between going to be with my ancestors or going back to Earth to serve humanity and fulfill my life's purpose. absolutely fricked me up for a few months and i got really into heroin which took me down a dark path for the years following the accident. but, it turned out okay. 6 years off dope last week.

Gotten bruised a lot, fallen down, flew over handlebars with a bicycle, fell down with a scooter. Nothing major ever, no damage to scooter, even though got a nice road rash.

    >Arguably worst
Twisted my ankle really bad, not broken, but in a condition that the doctor had to call others doctors just to say "yeah, it's fricked". 6 months to heal, and just a week ago it started acting up again. Think I restricted the blood flow too much with boots, now I've been walking with a limp, it's been healing luckily. Some nerve prob damaged, problem is that it will probably come back. I hike, cycle, etc. so it's probably worst for me
    >Kinda
Working 14-16 hour days hard labor in Australia. Back went out, physiotherapy for ~3 years or so. Just now it's been getting better. The problem was already there, it's just that the working made it worse. Got imbalance in the muscles so I got some scoliosis, probably because my right knee and ankle are fricked from everything I've done, so I walk a bit heavier on the other side.
    >Maybe kinda close
Didn't know I was allergic to shellfish. Got offered to eat a large shellfish in Japan in two bites, take one bite, throat closed. Luckily could breathe a bit before it went away, I knew to stay calm and not hyperventilate.
Small cut in Thailand to my foot from the strap of my sandals. Got back home, leg swollen up to the knee. Straight to ER, straight to the doctor past everyone else and on antiobiotics. Probably died if I left it, I suppose. I was young.

I got one while in Mykonos. I ate this weird thing they called a burger that didn't have bread. Turns out that weird shitty beef can cause hemorrhoids. Lasted a week. Felt like aliens landed up my butthole.

Worst part is I need to constantly wipe my ass now after I walk and it will have blood from the rubbing. Very emasculating.

you fricking moron. Food doesn't cause hemorrhoids like that. They're caused by pressure. Like when you push really hard or when you're a big fat frick or when you take it up the ass. Your beef in Greece was fine and probably better than wherever you're from anyway. You're just a moronic 5 year old who pushed too hard after drinking a bunch of alcohol.

I nearly dislocated my arm at the elbow snowboarding in Japan last year. I fell over and just braced myself wrong on my last run. I had pain in my elbow for about a month and a half.

On the first day I arrived in Tirana, Albania, I checked into the hotel and walked into a mall (it was raining) and slipped on the marble floor and shattered the frick out of my proximal humorous (that ball that connects to your shoulder). Went by ambulance to the Jacob's Ladder hospital that kicked me out after 5 minutes in the rain. Swelling up like a watermelon. Got back the the hotel, somehow made an appointment at the "American Hospital", that was at least clean. Spent the next 2 months sleeping in a chair. They wanted to do surgery but no fricking way. That was 2 years ago. Still have some stiffness because the bone frags chopped up the tendons.

Got a concussion in London after having the first (and last seizure) of my adulthood. I had epilepsy as a kid and teenager, but I hadn't had one in over 7 years at that point. It was my first time abroad, and the stress and environment change must have been enough to get that last one jumpstarted. Fell over standing up, cracked my head on the sidewalk, woke up with my wife and a few people moving me to the side while the ambulance came.

    Always get travel insurance.

cut open my foot in like 3 places because I got so wasted on pills and beer I apparently took off my shoes and socks in a playground, left my wallet and phone next to it and then walked to the hotel for an hour in bare feet. This was in downtown Copenhagen. Both my feet were completely black when I got to the hotel obviously and my left was gushing blood all over the lobby. It took weeks to fully heal.
