Some more advice to complete what the poster above said:
Catania and Taormina are pretty kino, visit the greek amphiteater in taormina if you got the time to get away from that region you're initially visiting.
If you got a car i'd definitely drive to Puglia as well and enjoy the beaches, they're definitely worth the detour.
There's a lot to see in all of the southern regions so i wouldn't limit myself to one area personally.
Don't you have a Feltrinelli, Mondadori, Giunti etc. shop? Maybe in the city center or inside a supermarket. Even a public library should have some guides
"See Naples and die." Johann Goethe
is it his best song?

Anon those are in Sicily. OP is going to Calabria.
Btw OP Calabria is very hot and dry, the roads are in terrible condition and public transport is non existent. I suggest you rent a sturdy vehicle.
i actually live here. but I basically never left my hometown. I'm trying to make up for it.
Just buy a tourist guide in a bookshop then and go wild.
never seen one of those or anything tourist aimed in my entire life in crotone. our region is beautiful but neglected.
