What's the most you can handle driving in a day?

What's the most you can handle driving in a day? I'm thinking of driving from Kansas City, MO to Buffalo, NY in one day which is about 14-15 hours of pure driving time + breaks to refuel the car, get food, etc. I'm not sure whether I'm deranged to try doing this and should just stay somewhere else for the night or whether this is a good idea. I think the most time I've spent on the road in a day before is 9 hours.

Pic unrelated: I would be driving a Honda Civic rather than a big ass Cadillac.

    That's nothing.
The most I've done was about 38 hours with no sleep. Just stopping to get gas and bathroom/food breaks.
    Adderall helps.

I think I did like 18 or 19 hours once, but don't. It's not a good idea. Motels are pricey but the $70 you spend (shop around beforehand) to stay the night is worth not crashing your car.

Around 18 hours, that was going from the middle of Texas to the middle of Florida. Anything longer and I'm using a hotel at the halfway point.

That is doable but be careful with weather, that part of the country is a mess this time of year and your travel time can extend a lot. It's also just very stupid to arrive somewhere at 2am, it's not worth it. I would drive to Columbus Ohio (10h) and then do the remaining 5h drive the following day to arrive around noon.

Depends on your age and motivation. 15 hours is not too bad. Me personally, I'd do it in two times and spend the night when I'm at the 80% mark. Just so I'd be somewhat fresh the day after. I'm assuming you're going there to meet someone?

you people sound crazy. the most i can drive in one go is about 100-150 miles or thereabouts, maybe 2.5-3.5 hours depending on the road. after that i start to get irritated and restless and start to lose my concentration
doesn't matter what type of car it is, or anything like that. i've just never liked driving all that much
i can handle long haul flights, long train journeys etc no problem. basically i just like other people to transport me around.

lol nope. if i want to go somewhere i can afford to have someone else take me there. the ability to spend a whole day behind the wheel of a car isn't something to boast about.

As long as you have a hotel or a definite place to crash when you get to Buffalo, 15 hours isn't too bad. Find some podcasts you can binge on the drive and get into a flow state of highway driving. Have some coffee/redbulls in reach just in case for the last few hours. I've done the NY-FL drive a couple of times and it's really not that bad if you aren't a little b***h about it.

I'm a truck driver. You get conditioned to it pretty quick, 11 hours of drive time in a day isn't really that much. I'd do 12 hours of driving, get a hotel room then knock out the rest. Just easier on your mind and body imo.

16 is what I've done at most but it was a lot. one time i did that drive and split it in half and stayed the night somewhere and it was so much better. no more then 10 hours a day id say. its a drag.

I drove 18 hours straight once for a 5-day vacation with only short breaks for fast food and restrooms. Do not advise it. I was 18 and thought I was invincible. Nearly fell asleep several times. I was so exhausted the first day of the vacation i couldn't do anything fun, then the last day i was dreading the drive back. i cut it in half on the way back and found a cheap hotel about 10 hours of the way back home

Longest I've driven in a stretch was from El Reno, OK to a campsite in the desert east of Kingman, AZ. About 950 miles. Started zoning out a bit going 70 mph on a wet curvy section of I-40 near Flagstaff when it was dark and the temp was only 33 F...that could've ended really badly.
The frustration you will feel over road construction or any sort of slowdown is the worst part, IMO. Yet driving with repressed seething anger is great for keeping you awake and focused.

10-12 hours is my max. 8 hours is my sweet spot. Just pull over once you're too fatigued to drive any further. It's not worth the risk.

I have driven from Omaha to (near) Buffalo in one shot before. Most of the time when I make that drive I stop in Ohio, but it can be done.

17-18 hours I think was the most, it was absolutely dangerous towards the end because I was almost dozing off on the road. I'm for sure getting a hotel next time if I'm driving the same route

There's not really a point tbh, if you do it you'll need the next day to recover anyways. Better to split it up in two unless

    >a)money is tight
    or
    >b)you only have X amount of time to get to your location

You can do it if you drink a shit ton of Mountain Dew. But 10 hours is honestly safer for a rookie.

I don't like to drive more than 10 hours. If I had to I would. If it was required I could drive for 24 hours or more.

Last year I drove an 08 civic from close to Buffalo (Hamilton) to Utah. I left at 6 am and probably was in Kansas city before midnight. I ended up doing 21 hours that day and than pulled over at a rest stop for a couple hours. I made it to my first camp sure in Colorado at 6pm next day. I drank a lot of those PK things you can get at the dollar stores.down there. I'm doing another one to Wyoming in about a month and I got some LSD to try microdose driving.

I’ve driven nearly, but not quite, that long in a single sitting at least a couple of times; I’ve moved cross-country by car twice. The stretch I recall most clearly was between Madison, Wisconsin and Cheyenne, Wyoming, which took more than twelve but fewer than fifteen
hours door-to-door, including a couple of stops to use toilets and/or get gas, and pump myself full of too much caffeine, but no long rest or meal breaks. When I was younger I had a weirdly masochistic, arguably maybe slightly self-destructive, attitude towards road trips undertaken out of necessity rather than for fun; although I didn’t fixate on being as fast as possible (although I will absent-mindedly catch myself going much too fast on sparsely populated highways once in a while, I don’t like to speed excessively in the presence of any other traffic; tailgaters and gratuitous lane weavers hell-bent on passing everyone they possibly can wherever they can are dangerous, dumb c**ts), I liked to get them over with, and often didn’t eat at all over the course of a day of driving. It’s not smart, as I much later understood that low blood sugar will eventually frick up my judgement and reaction time, as well as just making me foggy-headed in general and more prone to fatigue. In retrospect, duhh.

So I guess I can honestly report that “around 14 hours” is the most I CAN drive in a go, I don’t *like* doing it, and don’t recommend it if it’s avoidable. Nowadays I would sooner drive no longer than eight or nine hours at once at the absolute outside, and can admit to being tired enough that I would rather be done for the day after as little as six or seven.
