When the frick should I go to Japan?

> early in year is still cold from winter
> afterwards it is busiest season, tons of tourists and more expensive shit
> after it is the peak of summer where you can't go outside without getting skin cancer
> September is typhoon season
> October already cold again
> Winter arrived for the rest of the months

So do I just have to stop being a pussy and go during the cold days? I can handle the heat but I can't handle more expensive prices and overcrowded places. I suck with the cold and it makes me not want to go outside. When should I go to Japan?

I've been there in spring, summer and autumn and honestly liked summer the most. Fewer international tourists, it stays nice and warm even during the night and everything is air conditioned anyway.

Summer was kinda based. 2016 I was in Higashi Hiroshima. Got kicked off a bus for being the only white guy there. Likely the only white guy in the city, but I suspect there are always internationals there due to Hiroshima University.

Go during the Spring (aka Cherry Blossom season) but leave right before Summer starts and its 100% humidity / 100 degrees outside.

    > September is typhoon season
This is less of an issue than you think, the real shitty part is the peak insect activity so hiking is worse
    > October already cold again
If you think October in Japan is cold then just go in the summer, I was in shorts+T-shirt up to late November last year

Just like any other hot place, go in April-May or September-October.

Is November OK for sightseeing in Tokyo? Don't mind wearing a jumper, jacket, etc.

I went to Tokyo in late February . It wasn't that cold, every day was in the 40s and no snow

      For me it's:
      > 18°C tolerable but annoying
      > 15°C chilly enough to shiver
      > 8°C cold as frick
      > 5°C won't get out of bed without three layers of clothes
And so on. I guess I'll go in the Summer, but it's not the heat that I dislike, it's the fact that I'll have to apply sunscreen to go out most likely.

It honestly depends on your upbringing, and where you are. In arizona 11C is cold and I need a jacket. In Vancouver 11C is eh I can get away with a jumper. I think you subconsciously acclimate to the local conditions regardless.

When does tourist season start, anyway? I know tons of people go to visit during the cherry blossom season in March, is that the "official" start of it or is it earlier?

    >> early in year is still cold from winter
Pleb, it's just as cold anywhere else and winter activities are cool with friends or gf
    >> afterwards it is busiest season, tons of tourists and more expensive shit
Stop being poor or go in later bro
    >> after it is the peak of summer where you can't go outside without getting skin cancer
It's the same anywhere else worth visiting
    >> September is typhoon season
    This is slightly bad, true
    >> October already cold again
It's really not that cold, Tokyo barely gets snow or even rain around that time but it's windy, which you can dress up for
    >> Winter arrived for the rest of the months
    boo hoo
Best time to go to Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka is around Nov-Dec, it's slightly windy and chily but no snow yet. Again, you can always dress accordingly

I'm thinking of going October/November. What should I prepare for?

The southern half of Japan felt like fall to me rather than winter in November/December. The northern half of Japan will be under tons of snow so best not to go to Hokkaido.
