Most of Wimbledon is chill. Gets shitter towards the southern end towards Morden. There's also a shithole council estate opposite the common at Tibbets Corner you want to avoid like the plague, but that's nowhere near Wimbledon town centre anyway, and comes under Wandsworth (I think). Still it's pretty near the tennis, walkable, a few rich fricks living a literally stone's throw from crack dealers around that part.
There's also Kingston (Teddington and Twickenham nearby ae nice) which I prefer to Wimbledon, but it has no tube line, only train.

Once you get out of central London, you're generally in a self contained town with their own good and bad parts (although places like Tower Hamlets or Croydon are all shit). It probably won't feel London-y
I'm there for like 4-5 days to visit and see the Packers but i also have family coming in from the states and going with a friend so i was thinking big Airbnb and split it 5 ways...

there are plenty of satellite towns and cities around london that are within about an hour of a mainline station in central london such as waterloo, london bridge, charing cross etc, which would be much cheaper to stay in than london. examples include large areas of hampshire, surrey, berkshire, kent etc.

While you're right about the bizarre western infatuation with Japan, Tokyo isn't all that bad, depending on the area. However, this country, by far, has the most hideous architecture of any first world country. Not only that, with a few small exceptions here and there, every city looks exactly the same.

You're right about the Paris Syndrome thing as far as the buildings in Japan... Athens has better looking buildings (minus the graffiti) than the average Japanese postwar gray cube.

If you're willing to take a train instead of the tube (still included within all the travelcards), I'd head south east. Anywhere in the boroughs of Bexley or Bromley (except for Thamesmead) is pretty nice and relatively cheap - those areas are also more representative of the rest of the UK. Greenwich borough is also decent but watch for high prices in Greenwich itself and Woolwich is dangerous (but has some decent rough pubs which you should visit)

Make sure you're sure where the game's being played as well - Tottenham stadium gets some NFL games now, and it's in a different corner of London from Wembley, and it's not somewhere you want to stay around for your holiday. Frankly the public transport around London is good enough that you shouldn't make a priority of having to be near the stadium you need to get to - put yourself within walking distance of a tube or train and you're going to be no more than an hour away from the game either way.
Easyhotel croydon . About £50 a night even in the summer for an air conditioned room 15 minute train to Victoria. Its only good if your alone though, their "double" bed room is tiny.
Croydon itself is a shithole but the area around East Croydon Station is constantly policed so you'll be fine. The biggest annoyance will be drug addict beggars that hang out outside the station but their harmless
Just an FYI, when he says EasyHotel rooms are tiny, he means it.
They're beds, the absolute minimum amount of floor needed to get around the beds and an uncomfortably close bathroom (that for some reason are often misted glass that you can see into).

Not OP but I work remote and was considering a month in London working 2p-10p daily and exploring outside of those hours and on weekends. You guys are making it seem sad as shit. Are there other cities I should consider in UK for this type of working vacation? Just want to explore in an english speaking city with good trains

I like London but... a month there? Stay in multiple hotels, Staying outside of London will halve your costs. There are a shitload of places within daytrip range of London but trains are expensive, changing your base will save a load.
Also, any AirBnB that lets you stay 30days has idiots for hosts. At 30 days, tenant protections kick in.
I'm going through a breakup and am eager to hit the reset button, seemed like a good city to get lost in. A lot of airbnbs offer long term stay discounts, which helps with the nightly cost, but if you were me you'd just do a week here or there once I've gotten a feel for getting around? The danger of staying in one place the whole trip is naturally that you hate where you're staying on day 1. But if you want to basically experience a slice of life somewhere else, that's naturally the way to do it. I'd rather do tours with base of operations for each leg but that's my preference.
West/South-West of London tends to be the nicer areas as they were generally suburbs that got swallowed up in urban spread, rather than the miserable factory towns and 1960s tower blocks that tend to be to the east of London (Dagenham and Barking are shitholes, take that from someone with family there). You want to be within as short of a walk to a station as possible, check streetview to see if you'd be happy walking the route from the station to your airbnb at 11pm alone. In terms of ease of access to London the types of station are: Underground > overground > national rail.
Don't just assume "I'll figure out trips when I get there" plan days out, and stick to them. Lack of planning, even if you have lots you wish to do, is a recipe for spending days in your apartment. There are shitloads of things in daytrip range of London too. Brighton, Portsmouth's historic harbour, 3-4 theme parks, loads of palaces, country manors, castles, forts.

London has every kind of pub you could want but you're naturally going to get a high proportion of people on nights out or city workers, a vibe different from a country pub. If you want maximum comfy pubs, places like the Peak District have lots of picturesque towns and villages that often have nice pubs and cafes/tea shops.
Golden rule of pubs, especially if you're looking for food, is to avoid cheap chain pubs (wetherspoons, Brewer's Fayre etc.), aim for an independent one, one where it looks like the menus have been printed by the owners.

There are pubs like this in London around the outskirts. Red area is the best place for it, take any train to Orpington then either walk or hop on a bus out to the villages. Bromley CAMRA have published guides to the area, not only are the pubs great but surprisingly they're way cheaper than Central

Feltham is an option. It's one of the suburbs that goes to St. Pancras station. It's fairly self-contained, as another anon said. I cannot recall the B&B that I stayed at, considering that I was there a few years back. Still, it's an option. The whole trip is what you make it. God bless.

South-west is a good shout. Kingston is safe and not absurdly expensive. You'll be reliant on trains more than the Tube though.
