Depends on what you want to do while you're in the cruise. I've been on a few cruises, my favorite departed from Vancouver and went up through south-eastern Alaska for a few days, it's a well-trodden area along Juneau, Ketchikan, and a grab bag of small coastal towns.
I'm not big on Caribbean cruises, there's frick-all to do in the Bahamas besides eat, drink, and get sunburnt.

Solo cruising on Virgin Voyages this summer, first cruise ever.

Most Cruise lines offer fly-cruise packages. Just be warned that they can put you on the shittiest charter airlines imaginable (big scandal with P&O recently) .

A lot of the new megaships really cram in the passengers and all these amazing things to do they list get stupidly overcrowded. Check out the staff: passenger ratio, as well as the square metre per passenger. Going in cold months also means less people using outdoor stuff which crams them even more.

Generally with a cruise, you get what you pay for. MSC are the cheapest but worst for quality (and every port being embarkation points adds to the shittiness), Carnival are next cheap and tend to get filled with drunken Americans. The more pricey/luxury the cruise, the more strict dress code will be. MSC have a "you can kinda dress in white or smart casual if you want" on a couple of evenings on a cruise, cruise lines like Cunard are "You MUST wear a full on tux and bow tie on gala evenings, smart casual minimum other evenings'

Outside of that, you've got Virgin Voyages which are "cruises for people who don't do cruises", no buffets, most eateries included, big focus on sex and partying. Disney which are expensive as frick but massively themed, a bit more regimented on where you eat on each night and most things are geared to families. There are also smaller adapted cruise ships which are often used for arctic/glacier cruises (NCL do a bunch of them).

      is this accurate?
      (I'd like it)

looked at Cunard's Atlantic crossing because I hate flying so much and saw some pretty bad reviews

I'd like some good reco to get my interest back

The page with info is here: https://www.cunard.com/en-gb/the-cunard-experience/what-to-pack

It's "optional" but you'll be restricted to where you can go if you don't follow an evening's dress code. Generally, the more expensive a cruise, the stricter they are.

Cunard are the only company with Ocean Liners now so they're your only option for a fast transatlantic voyage. NCL and celebrity do slower ones on megaships though. I'm assuming you want to sail from Southampton.

Finished a cruise to Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia earlier this year.
Was on the cheaper side, tons of trailer park aussie trash though.
Looking to do the Mediterranean at the end of the year. After that I might switch it up and try to find groups online and switch to hikes and shit.

I think for NA the biggest is Alaska. There's also the Panama canal and the Caribbean. Depends what you like my man.

I am thinking of doing alaska but the ones I've seen is a 1 way trip to Alaska instead of round trip to mainland US or Canada. Which is kinda bad because you gotta pay the higher price getting out of Alaska to go back home

I see some deals for $300/night MSC cruises in the Caribbean. How are these for a solo cruiser? I just want a spa-like experience where I can relax for 3 days.

Why are river cruises so expensive, btw? I would've preferred to do a Mississippi or Great Lakes cruise but those prices are insane.

River cruises are expensive because they're small boats

A Mississippi River cruise would be boring af to me, you'll either be looking at farmland, industries, or levees. If you want to explore that river you're better off driving.

River cruises do offer better service than ocean cruises because they don't carry as many people. If you want to see a pretty river you'll need to do one in Europe.

It's fun for drinking all day and gambling. The travel aspect of it is pretty minimal. They typically dump you off near a nice beach for 1/2 a day and it's completely different than flying into a country and staying there for a couple of weeks. You can meet some pretty cool people on cruises, but you also have to deal with swarms of NPCs, inconsiderate, and trashy people. Food used to be decent, but has been hit or miss since covid. The cruise line is holding your hand 80% of the time so you don't have to put much thought/planning into things. It's worth it to try once and see if it is for you. I go with my parents occasionally and I don't dislike it, but it's not my preferred form of travel.

Swingers cruises are absolutely a thing but you're looking at people in their 50s

Most cruises are filled with couples and families, they're not great for hooking up. Very cheap boozy cruises going to beach destinations would seem the best bet to me, much more likely to have groups of women in their thirties wanting to hook up with strangers, especially 'foreign' ones.

Carnival Cruises are dope, been on 8+ trips so far. The key to avoiding all the poors and minorities is just book a cruise that's longer than a week, it's literally that simple. The 2-day-to-Nassau run is where all the "passengers brawl on cruise" news stories come from. Even when they don't mention it in the articles, if you look up the ship name and when the story happened it will always either be the 2-day-to-Nassau or the 3-day-to-Nassau and it will always be basketball-americans

Growing up I was never a cruise person because my family would always fly or take the bus/train. I did a river cruise in France and that was pretty nice. No children but I did deal with a lot of boomers. I might do a Carnival Cruise later this year considering the prices for the itinerary are reasonable and I live close to the point of departure.

Don't support cruises. They are loud polluting machines carrying ungrateful idiotic hoards of tourists they ruin local places. You are essentially stuck on a fricking boat with all these morons. It's expensive moving shitty hotel.

at some point i get tired of all the 'muh pollution' arguments while, meanwhile, most of the planet is occupying themselves shitting out 8 kids and eating out of styrofoam and plastic bottles. if you want to save the planet why don't you throw a dart at a map and genocide whatever country it lands on?

Went on my first cruise in January with my better half's family. Always thought they were boomer traps and Indian casino tier. But goddamnit, I absolutely loved it. I have always loved partying, good food and luxury and these cruises are the best thing ever for that. Seriously better than Vegas which has turned into a shit hole in recent years since the coof.

Now I'm looking at cruise prices every day and want to go as many times as possible. I'm trying to tell all young gays and everyone to go since cheapest rooms on a cruise are cheaper than Motel 6 and you have a way better time.

One of my big regrets is I didn't find out about these cruises until I was in my late 30s... holy shit, would I have liked to go on these in my younger days when I could have just stayed drunk and crush pussy the entire trip. But it is what it is.

I could totally see how it might not be for everyone. But for me, I love them and just want to do as many as I can.

If you're at a place where you can book a week off with less than a month's notice, there are all sorts of last minute cruises you can get for dirt cheap. Especially repositioning cruises if you don't mind a plane journey.

Thank you so much for the advice, anon. We have been studying all of the cruise sites out there and we observe that last minute deals seem to the best way to snipe cheap cruises. We definitely want to get in at least one and hopefully two more this year and we'll probably be sniping them last minute. Everyone says to get a travel agent but I don't think a travel agent can do any better than us sniping deals out there.

What do you guys think about booking cruises with travel agents? For groups of people I could understand it. But for just two people with one cabin, it seems like they couldn't do any better than us when we're watching all the sites like crypto.

based king, I knew SighSee was full of it when I was opening cruise threads a few years ago

xD fricking a woman on the balcony on the middle of the night and being able to a throw a rock from one bar and hit another bar on virtually every part of the ship is one of the most kino experiences I've ever had.

Conversely I had a bad time on an MSC. Mediocre food, insane overcrowding (buffet was hell on earth), awful shows (did one and noped at doing any more once we realised they'd all be the same sort of thing) and rude staff.

Don't do MSC, it's cheap for a reason. I did it because it was cheap and wanted to go on a mega ship (MSC Euribia). Going to give cruising one more try, will probably do a northern lights cruise with NCL (or celebrity if we can get a deal)

I have heard nothing but bad things about the MSC line. All of the cruise channels on Youtube really don't seem to like them. Our first cruise was Royal Caribbean which was fantastic but I could see how it would be overwhelming and not some peoples' thing. We also really want to try Princess and NCL since those both seem to be decent too.

Carnaval seems okay but seems cheaper and like it's overrun with Black folk.

Going on the "Big Nude Boat" Cruise in Feb/'25. Eleven days on Norwegian Pearl (old boat), it's already 85% sold out, so like 2800 nude people. What's killing me is the drink package; Norwegian is expensive...$108/day. And if one person in the cabin gets it, both have to have it. I guess I'll just get buzzed on the shore excursions and pay as I go. Wish this was a Bliss cruise...but after trips to Desire, Caliente and Hedo, wife is done with over-the-top public perversion.

Always get the shuttle bus and explore on my own.

Occasionally I'll stay at the boat for bullshit ports like "Paris (La Havre)" which is 3 hours by coach to Paris. You spend 3 hours on a bus, are in Paris for a couple of hours, then it's 3 hours back. Notices lots of cruise lines pretend Southampton is London which is amusing.

Have watched YouTube of people getting enjoyable cheap cruises. I’ve only been on royal. They’re fun but god damn they’re expensive. Alaskan was the best. The islands south of Florida are alright but the local vendors pester the shit out of you which can be annoying.

Bring exact change. A vendor in Haiti tried to screw me out of $10 and I had to get up in his face to get it back. Handed him a $50 for a t shirt and said “okay, you give me $30 alright”. He said “yes yes $30 back”. He handed me a $20 bill and tried to give me some bullshit trinkets. Eventually got my money back and said frick buying anything else. Funny they’d screw over the other potential vendors by pissing off the customer
