I've never gotten European vibes from Boston in any manner. It's a very international city in its population, but the city feels bland. People rave about the North End, but I don't get it. Rittenhouse and Old City philly both look much nicer than Boston's North End, not to mention having several other neighborhoods with way more character.
Yes I agree with this. Philly is a way better city than Boston for tourists. The Freedom trail in Boston is fun but you can do the entire thing in one day and then there's not much to do. Philly has a better and bigger and more beautiful historic district that is very safe and it takes maybe two days to see it all and then there's still so much more to see in Philly and the surrounding area.
>philly way better city than boston for tourism
Just the sheer amount of crime and homelessness in Philly is a major detractor. Boston feels way more dynamic and full of life, Philly is mostly dead even on weekends
Unless things have changed since I left Rittenhouse in 2019, all of center city is fine. I never once felt like anyone was looking to rob me in center city, even when I freshly moved there with it being my first major city.
I only noticed it feeling dead on the weekends in late summer when it's stupidly hot, because everyone goes to the shore. Even then, the neighborhoods outside CC like passyunk and fishtown still felt busy on summer weekends. So did manayunk. I think regular tourists just aren't trying to go to the big city instead of a beach on a hot summer weekend.

I went to highschool downtown then had a job down there during the pandemic and it was definitely worse the early /mid 2010s. Getting better now. Rittenhouse is fine but tourist going to the reading terminal might be off put
It's the segregated South. The desirable parts of Savannah are very white. The undesirable parts are very black. I visited with my sister in 2021, the downtown area was extremely nice. But we didn't hang out long.
I live in Boston and here is my opinion on why people say Boston. First, there are a lot of small reasons, and second, most other US cities are new and pretty cookie-cutter
First, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the US. There are loads of old buildings and architecture. There's new skyscrapers too but there's definitely a sense that Boston is 250+ years old which you do not get that feeling in other parts of the US.
Boston is relatively small, quite expensive, with a solid quality food/meauseams/history to it. It's also on the water, and it has SOVL since it's old. The city is right on the coast so there's rivers going all around it, there's a bunch of annoying bridges that can make traffic worse. It has a bunch of people living and working there who come from all over the world for the medical community. Boston has the best health care system in the world. The black people live in literally only 2 of the city's neighborhoods, so while it's diverse, it's not over 9000 brown people slumming it up everywhere. It can also have all seasons. Public transit is pretty shit but technically it exists if you try hard enough
I guess when I think of other US cities, many are landlocked, don't have bridges or waterways, lack SOVL, have only modern architecture, etc. Some of the midwest or pacific cities (Portland) look fricking gay as frick
Yeah pretty much this. Savannah feels very southern American to me. Wide straight avenues, big yards, etc. Boston isn't actually European but closer than any other major city in the US. Outside maybe a block or two here and there
>named after an African desert
>European
I've never felt this but apparently lots of them think Boston is.
Yes Boston is my favorite northeast city the quality of life is very high lots of people with college degrees really cool history fun sports teams
New Orleans in the US.
