Why are northern Europeans so fricking autistic

Having any conversation with these freaks is like pulling teeth. I met one Dutch guy in my hostel and I asked him how he was, he said 'good' and just kept looking at me without asking a question back. So I asked him what he was doing in (city). 'just volunteering for a while' with a gormless smile, staring right at me, no 'and you?'

Everyone b***hes about Northern Europeans on this board but after four months in southern Europe I am fricking glad to be in a region where people keep to themselves, move out of the fricking way on the sidewalk, and are just generally more competent people.
Maybe Dutch guy isn’t here to make friends and has his own goals on this hostel trip anon. It’s not all about you.

Yeah maybe, so say 'sorry man just busy atm' or literally say what he said but don't keep staring straight at me like a fricking weirdo

I have no idea but my limited personal experience with Finns tells me that they don't really like talking unnecessarily

IMO it's not completely bad. Here the US I get way too many moronic comments about "you need to smile more" or some shit. No Black person, I'm quite content with saying and doing the bare minimum with strangers.

They probably mean you would be more successful with women and in your job if you didn't have a resting b***h face.

That's one of the strangest aspects of American culture to me. Here in Eastern Europe people learn since childhood that only morons smile without a good reason.

Yeah, the legacy of ork 'culture'. I don't know when or if ever we going to get rid of it.

Germanics are difficult to have conversations with. They are generally averse to chatting with strangers, and they do not seem to make friends after a young age. It's quite the contrast from the Anglosphere.

Germanics are also soooo timid in confrontational situations. Maybe I speak more for Scandinavia, but the social contract of being maximo autismos and just staring at your feet must never be broken. They will allow themselves to be taken advantage of and never stand up.

I really despise this. I have traveled Eastern Europe for several years, and they wear a frown like a badge of honor. I'm an American from the midwest and smile at anyone I make eye contact with. They usually see a smiling stranger as suspicious. I've heard that being open about enjoying your life only paints a target on your back. I don't know why they insist on doing it to themselves. The Balkans are 'south slavic' and much more friendly.

I think Jugoslavia is a great compromise of outward friendliness without becoming feminine. That, and rural America chatting with boomers. Zoomers are just as inept at conversation as swedes.

Nah Swedes are fine, they are definitely autistic but their social skills aren't awful, they got a good sense of humor and they are self-aware of their autistic aloofness. Now you want to see a miserable bunch of social morons, look at the Finns. Jesus Christ trying to get two words out of those fricks is like pulling teeth and God forbid one should smile once in a while

What's really weird is that plenty of people have warned me about Dutch mannerisms, but I've visited the Netherlands multiple times, and most of the Dutch people I've spoken with had plenty of personality. They were able to joke around & shoot the shit like an anglo.

Yeah, this is pretty strange. Most of the Dutch I've met have been the most outgoing of all N.Euros (Neuros?). This guy must have been a weird pedo waiting for you to confess to liking the same things he does.

In my experience, most people I've met who go to hostels are either there to party, or to get out of their bubble/shell. He was probably one of the shy types who just wanted to talk to people outside of his bubble, but was too inexperienced/shy.

Sounds like he did not want to talk to you and you could not read the signs, sounds like you're autistic. When someone gives you one word answers, they are trying to politely end the conversation. Move on and find someone else.

Northern euros strike me more as wholly uninteresting than rude. Every Norwegian I've met was boring. Blonde stacy's, rich, speaks english. Sweden is the same. Denmark too. In my experience Dutch people are pretty nice but absolutely not cool in any capacity, if that makes sense. Just all around germanic straight people.

opposite also applies, I know several spanish people and they talk loud, almost shouting, constantly interrupting each other, its annoying and irritating, when all of them gather together I legit get a headache.

Americans are also annoying with their constant smiling and expectation that everyone else has to constantly smile at them.
No, I see no reason to smile at you and discuss my plans with you, we literally met 5 mins ago, I don't know you and even if I did I don't really like sharing too much with other people regardless if I know them or not. I also do not like and do not have to tell you to stop talking to me and asking questions because I simply do not like saying such things out loud or having any kind of confrontation unless it is absolutely neccessary, telling you to frick off is not so you just have figure it out yourself.
