And no, I cannot afford a first class ticket.

it is probably not your body that is not relaxed, but your mind. if you are not calm you will find it difficult to sleep. consider if you have something that is bothering you and try putting it to one side at least for the duration of the flight. also put away your phone etc and read a book instead.

Not that anon, but I cannot sleep at all if there's any noise in the room or if I don't have a comfortable place to lie down, so planes are a complete nonstarter. I don't know how asians do it and fall asleep in random public places.

          >if you are not calm you will find it difficult to sleep.
well yeah, that's definitely part of it. even when i'm at home, it can be hard for me to sleep just because i can't stop thinking about random stuff. sometimes i'll miss a night of sleep, and for most people, that would make sleeping the next night even easier, but for me, it makes it even HARDER because i spend a bunch of time thinking about what'll happen if i don't sleep.

I pulled an all-nigher + got wasted prior to boarding a 15 hour flight recently and was out like a light as soon as we took off

When I was going back home, I had bought some Eadibles DUDE while in Vegas and realized I couldn't bring them through customs so I just ate the whole thing before going into the airport. Slept like a baby.

tl;dr Drugs actually work pretty well but make sure you ingest them at the right time

Waxxed cotton earplugs make you go completely deaf if seated properly in the ear so those are nice.

If he did I wouldn't hear him. That said they're not as reusable as they claim. Those + a sleeping mask and even hostels become tolerable.

I've been on a bunch of international flights. I sort of sleep but not really. I try closing my eyes and I have these weird fever dreams where I'm aware that I'm not asleep every 5 minutes. Best tip is probably eyecover and get used to it. Window is best so you can lean against it imo but it's still kind of shit without a nice pillow.
I bring a neck pillow every flight, but I honestly don't even know why i do. It's not comfortable and doesn't help me sleep at all

I can't sleep on planes either. I think it's a combination of being on edge from the airport, having to sit upright, sun blaring from the window, anxious/excited about the trip, boredom on the plane...i have trouble reading on the plane too. the only thing i can read are the lonely planet pocket books, for the country or language and i try to figure out what i would need to know. really passes the time. i think it's just restlessness from travel and wanting to just get there or perhaps you know you have only a 40 minute layover coming up and you know you'll have to be hypervigilant getting through customs and your gate. Could also be the air pressure and altitude too perhaps. People have trouble sleeping when they are in the Andes or Himalayas. Could be related.
