Riding the bus along the highway I saw several expat homes in rural areas flying foreign flags. Even in the third class train coach with no legroom and no A/C, there were foreigners.

Fun can still be had in Thailand and Bangkok but expect to pay a lot more for it than in years past, and you're still not going to get the same quality in goods and services that you did before COVID. People come to Thailand expecting dirt cheap prices and many are leaving disappointed, don't think they'll be returning. That being said, I'm probably done with Asia in general, the continent overall has been getting too Westernized over the last 10 years, it used to be more isolated and felt like going to another planet, now with social media and global consumer brands moving in its more and more like everywhere else.

Youre way too late to the party for that, the days of LLT or even just LT are long gone. They have too many options now with ST meetings online where they can make twice as much vs hanging around one person for days on end. Yes to the second question. Otherwise Songkran is a novelty bucket list item that has also become loaded with inflated tourist prices and fake, touristy instagram bait bullshit. Songkran was more fun before COVID when Thais were much friendlier, but Thai people suck now especially the latest Zoomer generation of Thais who fall just shy of being completely Westernized with all the shit attitudes to go along with it, so things overall are more stiff and just arent as fun anymore.
