why is there no direct flights from Brazil to South Africa? Why are they wasting twice as much fuel when they could just fly directly across the atlantic? Are Brazilians fricking moronic or something?

>Are Brazilians fricking moronic or something
Airlines choose the routes, not the countries they operate in.
Also you absolutely can fly direct to South Africa via Sao Paulo
Neither areas can regularly afford tickets
Gee anon, why are there no direct flights between two poor shithole countries that have no cultural connections?
What other poor shitholes don't have direct flights? Is there an Indonesia-Nigeria flight?
>comparing BRICS countries to mud hut countries
>no cultural connections?
Angola is a nearby country that also speaks Portuguese and has a lot of Brazilians working there so there should be direct flights to Southern Africa.
Brazilians don't give a shit about either Angola or South Africa.
t. Brazilian
Brazil to SA has a head wind
Short answer, there are direct flights from Brazil to South Africa, moron. You just need a larger plane, and there isn't a ton of demand. Therefore it's only really offered from São Paulo due to demand.
Long answer, ETOPS, Extended Twin Operational Performance Standards. Basically, it's how far a twin engine plane can be from a useable airport. This is based on the time that the plane can fly with only one engine. So if you can fly for 2 hours with only one engine, your ETOPS time is 120 minutes.
Now, you might notice that there isn't any land between Brazil and South Africa. This means that you need a higher ETOPS rating, which means a larger plane and higher operational costs.
The only twin engine plane with an ETOPS rating high enough for this trip is the Airbus A350-900, with a rating of 370. Other than that, you're looking at quadjets like the Boeing 747.
Pic related. Dark shade is ETOPS 370, and the lighter shade is ETOPS 330.
It doesn't, jet streams run west to east.
Because the Brazilian govt doesn't subsisdize air travel like most rich western countries
I don't think there's direct flights from Brazil to Australia.
So all these Brazilians in Australia must be taking 2-4 planes
most just transit through santiago
There used to be some flights from GRU (São Paulo) to Cape Town (South African) and Joahanesburg (Latam and South African) prior to pandemic. It seems at least some of those flights will be back soon.
No. Too distant. People either go to Santiago, then Auckland then Australia or go through Doha/Dubai. But damm, it's expensive.
There's a flight São Paulo - Luanda few times a week.
There are direct flights, moron. And the most common indirect route is through Luanda via TAAG, not whatever the frick is in your image lol
This is sadly true.
Nobody from SA wants to go to Brazil and vice versa. Thirdies want to come north to firstie countries where they can escape crime and leech welfare. Firsties only go south to 'find themselves' or bang poor desperate women and get a tan. In short: the monkey doesnt want the plantain over the banana, he wants the chocolate bar.
