but he wasn't a known author in the modern era unlike mishima. also as a person he didn't do anything that would have made people remember him

This. He's Oscar Wilde without the wit, people like him more for his schizo antics than his writings.

        >inb4 it's better in Japanese

I have a friend who can read Japanese for well over 10 years, even better than natives. He says reading Mishima is extremely difficult to the point where he struggles and couldn't finish it. I think his writings were done in a bizarre interim between their old language reform and the one that happened after occupation. I'd imagine many Japanese wouldn't like him for similar reasons.

his schizo antics are kino tho. Always liked his St Sabastian photo op.

I dont expect too much ultra deep since hes japanese and they are mostly mentally naive as a rule, but his writings about stuff are usually very vivid and bold.

I don't dislike Mishima's work, but the insecurity in his personal life is too strong.
I don't mean to get political, but there's a difference between Trump's clowning around and it doesn't feel like bluster, but everything Tate does feels like desperate exaggeration.
He has a similar vibe to Tate.
