not OP, if I as an American obtained citizenship and a second passport from a European country whose nationals aren't restricted by Iran, and entered Iran using that passport, would I still require a chaperone solely because I retain US citizenship?

It actually seems to be a great place to travel to. The only reason for me to not visit it is that my ESTA would be denied and I would have to get a visa to US. As an american I guess the necessity of having a guide by your side is the only downside.
