Anyone have any advice for shit to do around fargo? Google says the pop is around 250k for the metro area? Is there anything to do or is it just braindead flyovers. I've never left California and rent is getting to pricey to live here in San Deigo, it's hard living at only 82K/yr.

Can you delay while you look for a new job? There’s no way that place isn’t complete shit, only places to escape to by car are Minneapolis, Omaha, the worst part of Montana and Winnipeg….thats fricking grim. Good luck if you end up going, their college hockey team is usually one of the best so you could check that out. Never heard one good thing about Fargo tbh.

I'm in a really comfy position where I am basically working 2-3 days a week, almost always have fridays off, and have no real "clock in" time as long as I get my shit done.

Basically getting told I need to just be there to set up the office and a few minor things after that, then I will move back to WFH/only be in the office for network upgrades. It's really hard to say no to 90k when fargo's cost of living is so low, I plan to just digital nomad after a few months.

Can’t knock that, should be able to save up some money at the very least. Might be a nice change from California for a while. Network engineer? I do “tier 3” support @ $70k, trying to figure my next move to try to get closer to 100.

It's a cool college town but yeah, the weather is brutal compared to SD. If you can handle the weather, I think it could be fun.

Weed is legal in the state beside it so I can just load up and be high as shit for the winter months lol. I hope there is uber out there as I don't have a car lmao.

Yeah basically. My biggest issue is food out there, I've never left cali and I hear flyover food is pretty shit. I looked at a few places and the prices seem oddly low, I guess the portions are really small or something.

Why do amerimutts actually try to live this way? There is no chance for public transport(yes I know this is america we are talking about lol) so you are forced to be a car owner. I live in London and could not imagine living in a place with less than 1 million persons. This stuff boggles my mind, why would you choose not to be around people?

I live around exclusively white red state Americans in a red state.

They're obnoxious fricking idiots who get drunk off shitty domestic beer. Their dogs shit all over the place. There is litter all over. They make drunken redneck barn dance rackets at whatever hour of the day. When a storm comes, the permanent garage sale/un-canned trash possessions strewn about the commons become projectiles.

If you can live around rich old people who aren't too nosy it is okay. Otherwise, it's Mogadishu with white people and country music.

Compared to the constant hell of "urban youth" and section 8 cities do, I will take a little trash being blown aronud and some people partying a few acres over. I beats the shit you can't fricking do in apartments anymore, like my nog neighbors blast music every friday->monday morning. Can't do shit as they are on a government program and landlord basically can only put up notes to re-specify quiet hours. This is before a sex offender moving into the previous place, blacks constantly getting into fights in the lots, and so on.

Fargo looks super comfy and cheap. Most the crime states are actually just traffic related and petty theft at the college.

You should move to an exclusively black area and enjoy the freedom that only constant rap blaring 24 hours a day, surrounded by pitbulls, drugs and violence, can bring. You deserve only the best, simp Soros homosexual.

Owning a car isn't the downside it is in London, gas in somewhere like ND is currently $2 and change per gallon, there's no MOT or any bullshit like that, all you have to do is give them $100 or so a year, maybe less, and you get new tags.

There's also no difference in social stuff because American's don't socialize with strangers regardless of whether they live in the country or city and there isn't a culture of drinking with strangers like the UK has. The only difference is cities just have a bigger variety of things to do but city Americans mostly hang out with people they already know in private settings.

A small city like Fargo would probably closer resemble London's random friendliness compared to most US places. There is a good chance the place you go to watch sports at a bar with will be there each weekend and open to talk with you compared to LA or some shit.

Fargo has a fairly decent bus system believe it or not, with most all buses having a front bike rack for transporting. Fargo really doesn't require a car unless you're living on the edge of the city, even so Uber/doordash/lyft all work with most grocery stores to pick up online orders and bring them to you. Winters suck but that's most places that far north unless you live right on a warm body of water.

In terms of traveling and Fargo, the biggest hangup is going to be always needing to layover somewhere for a long haul flight. Enjoy flying to ORD or DFW for 99% of things.

I live in San Diego and you could not pay me to live in the upper midwest. I'd rope. Especially not for a measly $10k tho you'll probably double your disposable income just on CoL differences.

You will need a car though. In the midwest, you drive, shit is spread out, and ubers aren't reliable and when they show up they're driven by the absolute dumbest people (or somalian immigrants same thing).

IDK the cost of living reduction is about 45-60% per month, on top of a 10K relocation package + raise. Overall it's more like getting a 25-30k raise when comparing costs of things online. My rent is going from 1500/mo(1br) to ~760(2br), utilities seem to be far cheaper, and I can get gigabit internet for 55/mo.

      >You will need a car though. In the midwest, you drive, shit is spread out, and ubers aren't reliable and when they show up they're driven by the absolute dumbest people (or somalian immigrants same thing).
You could swap out SD with midwest and it would be the same these days. Unless you live with mom and dad in a place they bought 40 years ago, there is a good chance you don't want to walk to places in the cheaper places to live in SD. Besides I'm living "downtown" everything I want is within walking distance or 15 minutes according to google maps..I'm sick of all the homeless and crackheads moving in because the weather is nice down here. I figure at least the winter months will make them flee down south like they do in Denver.

It's a red state so they'll actually get prosecuted for stealing catalytic converters to support their meth habit too.
North Dakota's population though, was like 700,000 100 years ago and now its 700,000. The state hasn't grown at all compared to the rest of the country since the 1800s and most people there have family farms and shit there and that's why they stay. The women are cornfed and the place is just generally very bleak.

From what I've read fargo is growing fairly fast but I really don't give a shit about bigger number = better, anymore. West coast at least has just shown me it only means more trash floats your way.

The way I see it I have 2 options
          1) Stay for 2-3 years, max my savings maybe get a room mate
          2) Stay in Fargo or Grand Forks, downsize to 1br for 515/mo then digital nomad after getting the office they want set up

It's a call center kinda place and I know there is no office for IT so I will be going back to WFH. They just want IT up there for yearly upgrades and to be on the same timezone.

It just means they are thicker. Fargo has 200-225k(numbers are lower than google because the college kid pop) people they have all kinds of women there contrary to popular belief on SighSee, there are all shapes and sizes. If you're in fargo with 85/yr on a single persons salary you can go to bars and things without worrying about money and often avoid the gutter trash dive bars.

Like lmao stay away from trying to pick women up at fricking applebees style places, and women stop being fat cows

      >wtf why!! That sounds gay af fr fr no cap think of the women might be fat

Women in cities are often more fat than people in the midwest, it all depends where you look. Midwest goes from like Hamplanet mode to normal, where the city you have various levels of the fattening. OP having a high salary means the gutter trash is easy to filter out, if all you see is trash you might be looking in the wrong places. This board always makes me laugh at how fricking ridiculous people view the US.

Californians really do be like "White stuff on the ground that isn't cocaine?!!? and I am a little chilly,am I going to le died?!?!"

A decent windbreaker+gloves+thermal leggings = not going to notice it with the short walk to the car/take trash out/go into a building. Fargo really only gets bad 2, 2 1/2 months out of the year in from xmas to mid feb.

Winters are a bunch of snow, just stick inside or huddle at the bars that everyone else does that time of year.
Springs are iffy, you might get snow in april/may but it usually melts fast like within a day or two
Summers are windy and cool, the hottest it might get is like 85 with a heatwave once or twice every few years
      Falls are just windy clusterfricks

People who complain about 2-3 months of winter are hilarious, you're just trading actual winter for a temperate summer, spring, and fall season. T. grew up in the midatlantic

Fargo is on extremely flat farmland that was clearcut long ago or already grassland, so you mostly have the red river or going east half an hour+ before you start to run into lakes. Beautiful dark soil however

One good thing is that Fargo has a regular amtrak station taking you into Montana or down to chicago for dirt cheap if you want to. Assuming someone with remote work was living in Fargo it would be insanely easy to traverse a bunch of nature for cheap and sleep on the train if you wanted.
