South Africa's apartheid system was dofferent than the Jim Crow system in the USA. Under Apartheid, there were four legal racial categories: White, Black, Colored, and Asian. Mixed race people were a large population prior to Apartheid and were given their own separate legal status distinct from Blacks and Whites.
