>squirts diarrhea and vomits uncontrollably for the next three days
>drink it >go out and buy a replacement for cheap >put it back
heh nothing personell kid
This, I just found some bottled water of the same brand and drank that instead. If I hadn't done that yet or ran low, I carefully took the stickers off the bottles and made sure to get replacements before the maids came back in.
That doesn't work any more in newer American hotels.
They installed sensors that automatically charge you when you move something in the minibar.
And guess what happens if you tell them you want an empty minibar to store your items?
They'll charge you for that as well!
Actually more and more hotels don’t even stock up their fridges anymore because they don’t make that much money of these anymore. Nobody buys shit from the minibar anymore, not even richgays.
So literally moving a can of Fanta to check the flavor and putting it back after you decide you don't want it puts a charge on your bill? This doesn't make sense
>They installed sensors that automatically charge you when you move something in the minibar.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read here
So literally moving a can of Fanta to check the flavor and putting it back after you decide you don't want it puts a charge on your bill? This doesn't make sense
This is true. I used to work front desk at a JW Marriott in the US and each room had a stocked fridge with sensors that would auto-charge your room after 30 seconds. Shit was so flawed though because people would move shit around or take stuff out to put in their own crap so they would get charged anyways. They would always b***h about it and this was very common so we had an internal account where we would transfer the charges there for accounting purposes. Pretty much just created a slew of issues for night audit and accounting
Sorry yeah. I worded it poorly but we transferred any contested charges to that one account to track and prove to the higher ups how fricking stupid it was
My Ameribro friend almost got charged for an entire fridge worth of food. had to bring management up to his room and show that yes, your fridge is still fully stocked and nothing has been altered. He got the refund but it turns out this all happened because he shut the door a little too hard which made the sensors jiggle.
I've encounter these a few times but at places where I'm just paying by cash as I go, I've not been to america yet though. You're daft if you don't consume every single free thing and leave the place an absolute tip at every single hotel/airbnb you stay at.
I'm trying to parse this myself, and from what I can tell, it sounds like it's frowned upon in Poland to use up every consumable item in a hotel room. My personal views on this aside, it seems like they'll try to recover the costs by getting the police involved. They want to lure you back into the hotel so the police can shake you down for money, I guess.
I used to argue with the clerks and tell them that I was a recovering alcoholic and "How dare you leave alcohol in my room"
More often than not they would offer me something as an apology and then remove it from my room.
>hotel room comes with 2 complimentary bottles of water >drink one bottle >next day >housekeeping replaces the empty bottle; have 2 bottles again
>don't drink any this time >next day >housekeeping doesn't do anything with the water; still have the same 2 bottles
>wonder what would happen if I try to "hide" the water bottles >put water bottles in the fridge >next day >see 2 bottles on the table >check fridge >same 2 bottles from before are still there >now I have 2 cold bottles and 2 room-temperature bottles >keep doing this until fridge is full >have a stockpile of cold bottles >hydrated af
I did this with coffee when I was 13 and went to Hawaii for the first time. I don’t know why, I didn’t even drink coffee. Eventually they found I was hiding it in my bag and put back the ones I had taken. In retrospect it’s bad to think that they went into my bag, but I also can’t believe my parents never said anything.
>upgraded upon arrival into a much much nicer room, no idea why >room has fridge full of different drinks >lookup the room and it says drinks are free >drink half the first day, they get restocked the next >afraid to ask if its free or drink anymore >never charged for drinks
if i known, i would have taken them all every day
Honestly you would be hard pressed to drink enough soda / water in a day to appreciably impact the bottom line. Cheap hotels in Canada are still like $100 a night. I could drink maybe six sodas in a day if I hated myself, that’s less than $10 at retail.
When I used to work in a hotel, one of my job duties was to get a list of all rooms that were checked out and go there to confirm the room was actually empty, so sometimes I would go to a random mini bar and grab myself a can of sprite and some chocolate bar. Nobody ever noticed or said anything. People would always also forget shit that they don't come back for so we had to take it and put it in lost&found but it usually stays there forever. I found a brand new PSP one and took it, waited like 2 months before I opened the box though because I was worried the guests would come back for it but they never did
>waited like 2 months before I opened the box though because I was worried the guests would come back for it but they never did
You’re supposed to contact them you homosexual
>contact every single guest who forgets shit in a hotel that checks in and checks out 5000+ people every day
I shouldn't care more about your shit than you.
Not my problem.
Contacting guests for lost items is against policy in any good hotel, and from the hotel's side there is almost no situation where it's a good idea. Zero positives and many potential negatives. I've worked in a few high-end hotels and if the guest doesn't call it's assumed he doesn't care or doesn't need it. What happens to the item varies from place to place but usually the person who found it gets the first refusal, if he doesn't want it it's offered to everyone else, and if it's valuable or in high demand it gets auctioned between the staff.
When you're on holiday sometimes you can't be assed putting on clothes, heading down an elevator and walking to the store and back at 2am for that single beer or single cup of noodles you are fiending
It's literally just the KitKat chocolate bar in a can. To add to the disappointment, the can doesn't even open from the tab, it actually has a twist-off cap.
This is something I used to read about well over a decade ago, but I feel it's relevant enough. Apparently pajeet travelers will scam the hotel, and the next guest to stay in the room could be caught in the crossfire.
What I've read is that Indians will drink the bottled water from the minibar, refill it with tap water from the bathroom sink, and shut the cap as tight as they can. If left undetected, you might end up with potentially subpar water, and a serious hygiene issue. I assume they only do this in hotels with unsecured minibars, or ones with time-delayed sensors.
I was in a four seasons in marrakech last month with wife and I fully cleared the mini bar of booze 3 nights in a row and somehow it came to 150$ or something paltry when we checked out. Don't know what happened didn't ask, I thought i was in for at least $400. Had two nips of JW Red, JW Black, GG vodka, plus 2 beers every night on the terrace.
That said, if you don't hit a convenience store for snacks and a few beverages to enjoy in the room youre doing it wrong. I usually buy a bottle of whisky at duty free just so I can have a evening nip or two at a 1/100th the price of mini bar or room service. Makes me feel a little greasy though, since I'm rich and can afford to just drink from the bar.
Just put a fricking vending machine or something like that in there instead what the frick this sensor shit is stupid and was already solved decades ago
*drinks tap out of the bathroom sink*

didnt even notice that kek. NEED to know what that tastes like
I can't even find this anywhere

I feel ripped off

Some hotels have an empty fridge instead of a minibar that you can freely use.
Actually more and more hotels don’t even stock up their fridges anymore because they don’t make that much money of these anymore. Nobody buys shit from the minibar anymore, not even richgays.
Yeah the only places I've seen a stocked minibar in the last 15 years was on cruise ships.
just uber eats from a minimart to the front desk, make the bell boy bring it upstairs
So literally moving a can of Fanta to check the flavor and putting it back after you decide you don't want it puts a charge on your bill? This doesn't make sense
maybe there's a timer? honestly I have no clue
>They installed sensors that automatically charge you when you move something in the minibar.

what happened to numbered plastic ties

and you withdrew the charges for people who just moved stuff around without consuming it, right?
Sorry yeah. I worded it poorly but we transferred any contested charges to that one account to track and prove to the higher ups how fricking stupid it was
nice, hope they came to their senses. cool idea in concept to use sensors for all that, but i guess it doesnt really pan out in reality
My Ameribro friend almost got charged for an entire fridge worth of food. had to bring management up to his room and show that yes, your fridge is still fully stocked and nothing has been altered. Why do Americans love slamming doors so fricking much? Are they the only stress relief they have aside from semiautomatic rifles?
The luxury of nor being poor and not giving a shit to replace items as soon as monthly payments come off.
Either that or pure fricking dumbassery.
I don't know, I would say taking proper care of things doesn't correlate with income.
First 30 seconds
>puts unrippable stickers on all the food and beverages so you can't just replace them before you check out
This actually shits me

Dont do this in poland they call the police and try to lure you back by pretending you left something behind.
lure you back for what purpose?
I'm trying to parse this myself, and from what I can tell, it sounds like it's frowned upon in Poland to use up every consumable item in a hotel room. Don't see why it has to be so expensive, I'd actually use it if it were like +10% of convenience store prices but this way they're getting nothing
Haven't seen those in Europe post covid, they are always just empty and I store my beers and water in those, pretty good.
I've seen them in Europe in 2020, stocked with complementary drinks.
Isn't that a Larry David episode?
for me it's the sprite and bag of chips
I used to argue with the clerks and tell them that I was a recovering alcoholic and "How dare you leave alcohol in my room"
More often than not they would offer me something as an apology and then remove it from my room.
>argue on purpose and for no reason at all
Are you black?
Sounds based
Thanks, I'll use this trick next time.
>hotel room comes with 2 complimentary bottles of water
>drink one bottle
>next day
>housekeeping replaces the empty bottle; have 2 bottles again
>don't drink any this time
>next day
>housekeeping doesn't do anything with the water; still have the same 2 bottles

This is something anyone over the age of 12 could realize without even having to experiment with it
Why don't you go sign up for Kumon or something
I will kum on your dad

In some suites the drinks are complimentary.

Not all of us grew up poor
Why drink or eat something expensive from the minibar, when Thailand has a 7-11 around every corner. Only morons do that.
why would I go to Thailand?
When you're on holiday sometimes you can't be assed putting on clothes, heading down an elevator and walking to the store and back at 2am for that single beer or single cup of noodles you are fiending
convenience store next door sells the same bottle of water for $7. check. mate.
*moves everything on top of each other and uses it as a fridge*
>get charged for everything you moved because you triggered the sensor
never seen that
>a kit kat drink
wtf
its not a drink just package
thailand

Why has nobody reviewed the KitKat drink yet?
It's literally just the KitKat chocolate bar in a can. To add to the disappointment, the can doesn't even open from the tab, it actually has a twist-off cap.
if this isn't a completely wasted opportunity i dont know what is
And to think they make flavored milk based on other Nestle chocolate products, but not KitKat.
First Nestle doesn't want you to have water, now they don't want you to have KitKat milk.
tried the one on right didnt like it
what kind of thirdie hell hole charges you for water at a hotel? Water is always free in my experience

Difference between being rich and a moron who lets himself get fleeced. Good on you.
