I consider moving to France from another European country. I realize it's got many issues, but so does the rest of the West. Once you see past that, it seems to be a great country:
- beautiful and charming cities
- wonderful countryside
- decent weather
- fantastic cuisine, restaurants and grocery selection
Is there anything an outsider doesn't know about France that should keep me from moving? I'm a codemonkey, so I should be able to earn sufficient money everywhere.

Some places are more pozzed than others, but if you're from London, New York or wherever you will be ok even in Paris.
Just avoid Marseille.
Why Marseille?
It's Algeria 2.0, it's directly connected to Alger by boat.
Also, the mafia controls the economy, they own the parking lots and so on.
Northern France is also shit for different reasons.
The whole western part is good.
I can by a comfy acreage in Brittany. Should I?
definitely
Getting raped by high taxes and get nothing in return. This is the worst.
Schools are among the worst in Europe.
Hospitals are free (it’s not, because the taxes raped you hard) but you get shit quality. It’s so bad that all the richgays either go private or go to America, and Chinks go to China to get healed. It’s that bad.
One morning, they build social housing in the middle of nowhere and your village is quickly overrun by shitskins.
Only saving grace is great food but even villages (at least in Northern France) are losing it, getting replaced by Asian food, fastfood and kebabs.
Southern is still good.
Northern France is particularly shit tho.
It has always been the land of poverty and incest.
>Getting raped by high taxes and get nothing in return
Not true. France has some of the earliest and highest pensions in Europe, some of the best childcare in Europe.
Can't comment on healthcare, but life expectancy seems to suggest it's far from bad either.
Life expectancy is long because food is good and not too sugary.
I’m not from Nice but local specialties include socca (type of chick pea pancake, pretty filling and nice, very simple though), pan bagnat (local sandwich), pissaladiere (type of pizza-pie), and barbajuan (fried dumpling filled with chard leaves, from Monaco, love this shit).
As for bakeries, it’s hit or miss, you have great and bad ones anywhere. You can always try any bakery with “meilleur ouvrier de France” title, which is a prestigious prize. It doesn’t mean it’s the best, it doesn’t mean that those who don’t have the title are bad, but at least, in the worst case, it’s decent. At least it’s 100% homemande from start to finish.
You won't benefit from the pensions except if you're a boomer who worked here your whole life, the whole system is staged for collapse. Keep in mind that the working population makes less money than the retired one.
Childcare and education are trash except if you're a member of the elite, you won't be as a foreigner.
Not to mention that northern countries have a comparable or often lesser amount of tax but also have the quality of life that you'd expect in return.
Meanwhile France is a jaded shithole that redistributes a lot of money but often in the stupidest way possible, and not even to people who need it. Combine that with a social peace that's precarious at best.
The cherry on top is that the judiciary system is criminally underfunded.
If you plan on having kids the educational system is an exercise in futility and stupidity, your kids will be done for if you don't speak enough French to help them at every step along the way.
On the topic of finding work I hope you've got a good diploma, as it's all that matters here (less in tech however, just expect to have a lot of managers).
French as well but I'm interested in hearing the best.
France isn't a bad place to go on vacations, especially if you speak French, but living here? I'm not so sure.
Granted every place has it's issues but we sure aren't getting our money's worth.
Go to Portugal and find remote work OP
>Southern is still good.
I plan on going on vacation to Nice in two months. What kind of foods and dishes do you reckon I check out? Are there any classic restaurants or bakeries you can recommend (I don't like places that are too crowded)?
in france you can just visit most family restaurants, they'll range from okay to great
The city is fairly small, it's a daytrip in my opinion. The surrounding mountains and countryside are quite scenic though.
I'm also going in September, wanna meet and frick?
On a serious note tho, what is there to do in Nice, I plan on going with my GF for 2 weeks.
Dude, shill. I am from France, yes, we have issues but what you are describing is just taking the worst.
There are still good places for french food.
We still have good doctors, and people sometimes go to private clinics because you wait less, not because public will heal you badly.
You can still take a train/bike/car and move 45 minutes from a big city and end up in rural France.
>France
Why go to France for those four points when you can go to Italy
Poorer, economic and demographic outlook is horrible. And I can’t stand heat as extreme as theirs.
Do you speak French? They generally don't speak English there
Is strasbourg recommended?
Is it easy to date in France bros?
No
stick to your containment thread pajeet
france has enough undesirables.
Literally impossible unless you are literally GigaChad reincarnate or you date an African or a fatty. And if you are ugly then your only hope is a fat African.
is France really this aesthetic? Or is Orleans a shithole outside of this angle?
Orleans is a shithole outside of this angle.
But there's some cities that are aesthetic like Bordeaux
French cities outside of the town core can be disappointing, but the town core is aesthetic as frick in 90% of cases. Even complete 'shithole' cities will have some streets that mog everything except Italy.
Yeah no, lived in France a few months, here's the truth:
1. Every big city has big ghettos and no go zones basically ran by gangs. You think arabs and blacks are bad, wait till you run into gypsies, refugees from eastern europe, they're even worse. You see gypsies pissing on the streets, stealing from shops downtown, going into farms to steal livestock on a daily basis because how bad things are with refugees. Lots of undocumented immigrants roaming around and thinking they're untouchable because the government is too scared to kick them out lol.
2. High taxes will violate you, anything you earn will go to the government so Ukrainians can get free hotel rooms. Most french people i know just want to get the frick out, even to Canada if they have to because high taxes basically mean no future.
3. Cost of living is high in the bigger cities, even Marseille is expensive if you're trying to avoid their many ghettos.
4. Paris is overrated, most restaurants don't cook home made food and just re-heat processed garbage because the notion of "fait maison" aka "home made" is not protected by law, re-heating pre-packaged foods and adding a basil leaf on top legally makes it home made so most bistros, normal restaurants do this. If you want real french food you'll need to go to the more expensive places. I see a lot of americucks here saying the french have amazing food but their pallet is used to fast food and corn syrup so anything is considered "good" to them lol. The same thing goes for bakeries, REAL fresh croissants are rare and only made at select bakeries downtown, everyone else serves the same frozen stuff they buy from the same supplier stores right outside the city limits.
5. Cheeses and wines are good and affordable, if you like those you won't be disappointed.
6. Parisians have a superiority complex, they often treat foreigners like absolute shit even at restaurants lmao. In the south they treat you like cash cows since everything is overpriced.
>Every big city has big ghettos and no go zones basically ran by gangs
uuuuh ... while that's bad and stuff, i don't see how that's any different from the US
What's your point you college moron
Ghettos in France are actual no go zones, traffickers run the place and you WILL get mugged/harassed/or worse if you go there unannounced, they'll think you're with the cops if you're not there to buy drugs.
Ghetto examples: Quartiers Nords of Marseille, La Castellanne in Marseille, Sevran in Paris, Venissieux in Lyon, those places have shootings/killings on the regular, and it's not a bunch of nignogs in Compton rocking gang signs, they're actual drug traffickers with assault rifles. Some of these drug selling points bring in as much as $30,000 USD a day so people there have no problem killing to protect their turf.
In the US, ghettos are smaller and you need to be a special kind of moron to actually get in trouble.
Ah, thanks. But the areas you listed scream "don't go there" from afar, anyways. Are you reasonably safe as long as you avoid them?
Yes, avoid commieblocks and slums like you would do everywhere else.
You'll be relatively safe yes. Didn't mean to scare people off lol, just saying the ghettos there are worse than the average US ghetto.
But still, the golden rule in France is avoid the suburbs around the big cities, that's where the "cités" (ghettos) are. Not every suburb is a ghetto but if you roaming around exploring you might end up in one basically.
Stick to monuments, tourists areas, old towns, etc and then go on the country side if you really want to roam free and explore freely.
Paris: Stick to downtown and call it a day lol
Lyon: Stick to the old lyon area and maybe jean-mace, bellecour, la confluence, la guillotière, la part-dieu (Not the train station area), etc
Marseille: Old port and then move to pther cities lol
Nice: Not much of a ghetto city since there's a lot of wealth there, but some areas are pretty sketchy regardless. Le ray, saint-sylvestre are to avoid.
Grenoble: Everything south of downtown is shit
Macon (If you're driving to and from Lyon): Blvd les états-unis, rue nelson mandela, everything around the Leclerc there is just one giant shithole filled with refugees lol
Dijon: Les grésilles is a notorious ghetto there, avoid the area. Downtown is pretty chill however.
If you're looking for beaches to chill in, avoid the overly popular spots like Palavas-les-flots in Montpelier as it attracts the country's sketchy fricks. Drive further to cap d'agde, lots of single milfs and normal people.
>cap d'agde
Thanks, Pierre.
Man, how tragic. One of Europe's most beautiful countries, and every city is covered in "better don't go there" areas.
Basically this. There’s absolutely no reason to go to these places anyway.
Except for Saint Denis near Paris, where the famous royal necropolis is. I mean, it’s not that unsafe during daytime but it’s basically a mix of some African shithole with an Arabic one. Depressing as frick, ugly as frick.
>Ghetto examples: Quartiers Nords of Marseille, La Castellanne in Marseille, Sevran in Paris, Venissieux in Lyon,
Well, pretty much every one is telling you to avoid these cities (and maybe Lille as well). These are 3 fricking cities you have to avoid and you can go to 95% of the country left, how hard is it?
How many cities do you have to avoid in the US? Baltimore, Detroit, DC, a lot of New York, a lot of LA, Saint Louis, Memphis, Cleveland....
The whole cities, or only the ghettoes? Considering Paris and Lyon are Frances main big cities, it would be very disappointing to have to avoid them altogether.
Marseille, avoid the whole city and everything within a 50km radius.
Paris, avoid some neighborhoods (Barbès, Goutte d'Or..), the whole suburbs, everything around train stations, be careful around the Eiffel towers as well (pickpockets, scammers).
Lyon, avoid the suburbs, Part-Dieu, train stations...
>the whole suburbs
You mean, the whole of Ile de France?
Yes.
>ghettos are smaller and not dangerous in the us
You have very obviously never been to the US or spent any amount of time here if you think. We have all the legit drug traffickers you mentioned, far more guns in general, and a culture built around it. You are legit moronic if you think you can just walk around Compton as a white dude with no repercussions at any hour of the day. I’ve literally been there, yeah you can drive through it at noon but I sure as frick would not be hanging around after dark.
Oh there's no question some neighborhoods are tough in the US. Wasn't saying everything was fine either lmao.
What i'm saying is that the avg US ghetto either has blacks or latinos. The average ghetto in France has blacks, arabs, chechens, gypsies, slavic refugees, then you add the shit ton of syrians/afghans/other refugees they let in or that came in illegally and basically have nothing to lose.
2 years back there was even beef between the arabs and chechens which resulted in both communities pulling out guns and going to each others neighborhoods, many killed, lots of burned cars, etc. People shooting AKs in broad day light and flashing guns in front of cops regularly lol.
You guys have it easy in comparison.
>The average ghetto in France has blacks, arabs, chechens, gypsies, slavic refugees,
You're full of shit. The average ghetto in France is arabs+blacks+french, that's it.
The WORST ghettos in Paris , Lyon or Marseille have chechens, afghans, gremlins, pakis, gypsies, 2nd generation pokemons and so on.
Also realize most of this thread is other french people by now, so cut the bs.
Kek you've never been to France and it shows, quit being butthurt, i just laid some info here now you do what you want with it.
Some of you homosexuals have a clear bias for a country and get mad when ever people don't say what you want to hear, like just stfu and explore it's not like you're in any real danger unless you act reckless.
France is nice to visit if you keep the Paris tourist BS hype aside and just explore the real country.
>France is nice to visit
yeah, but the thread is about moving there. and if it's unsafe unless you know what you're doing, that's an obvious no-go
And that doesn’t even begin to go into Latino/cartel violence that routinely happens in border states. Frick off with your misinformed bullshit. It’s not some completion as to who has the “hardest” ghettos.
>Every big city has big ghettos and no go zones basically ran by gangs.
You're over exagerating.
You can go pretty much everywhere by day (unlike real ghettos, brazilian favelas, tenderloin). Those aren't real "no go zones".
Also, they are not that organized to be "run by gang". You'll have drug dealers and petty crimes but no organized crimes. Most of these people are just defrauding the state health insurance, welfare and things like that.
avoid subways as well, but that's obvious.
Is this part of France good to live?
The western coast yes. Everywhere else is either boring as frick or filled with sandpeople and gypsies.
Same goes for Touloues?
But if you stick to non-ghetto areas, France is safe, amirite? Or can you still get mugged?
Issue is, these vermins take public transport so basically they can randomly appear anywhere.
Saw a well dressed black man getting mugged in Paris by a teenage Black person.
Know a guy who got his luxury watch stolen by gypsy scum in Cannes.
My mom got spat on by a bunch of teenage joggers in a quiet nice street of Paris.
Most of the times you should be fine but be always careful, no matter where, except maybe in Finistere.
And mudslimes and nignogs everywhere, burning cars, stealing and raping freely.
Why would you go to France when you actually have kinda decent countries out there?
Such as?
